FasTracks

What is FasTracks?

FasTracks is RTD's twelve-year, $6.1 billion comprehensive plan to build and operate high speed rail lines and expand and improve bus service and park-n-Rides throughout the region.

FasTracks includes:

  • 119 miles of new light rail and commuter rail
  • 18 miles of bus rapid transit service
  • 21,000 new parking spaces at rail and bus stations
  • Expanded bus service in all areas

An Easy to Use System

FasTracks provides many ways to ride a bus or train.

  • Drive to a park-n-Ride and get on a bus or train
  • Walk to a bus or rail station
  • Ride your bike to transit stations and store your bike in lockers and racks or take it with you on buses and trains.

Successes

RTD has 10 years of successful experience building light rail in the region. The Central Corridor, Central Platte Valley and Southwest Light Rail lines were all built on-time and on-budget.

  • Ridership on light rail has exceeded even the most optimistic projections, and carries over 35,000 riders per day.
  • RTD was voted the Outstanding Transit Agency in North America by the American Public Transportation Association in 1993 and again in 2003.
  • T-Rex began serving Denver in 2006 - on-time and on-budget.
  • RTD ridership has increased over 28% in the past 10 years. RTD carried approximately 95 million riders in 2007.

How much will it cost?

FasTracks will cost $8.0 billion to construct over twelve years and will be funded by a combination of a region-wide sales tax, federal funds, and private contributions.

What will FasTracks cost me?

  • The tax is 4¢ for every $10.00 in purchases.
  • The sales tax does not apply to groceries, prescription drugs, gasoline, or home heating fuels.
  • The sales tax will be reduced when the bonds are paid.
  • The tax went into effect on January 1, 2005.
